Oklahoma botches the execution of John Grant

Despite a delay of more than 6 years since its last execution, Oklahoma botched the execution of John Grant, carried out on 28 October 2021. Doctors say the dose of Midzolam used, putatively, to sedate the patient was insane.

After being adminsitered the Midzolam, Grant began convulsing and vomiting such that correctional officers had to wipe vomit from their faces.

A federal appeals court has granted a stay of execution for two Oklahoma inmates who were scheduled to receive lethal injections in the coming weeks. A three-member panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit issued the stays Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, for death row inmates John Marion Grant and Julius Jones.
