Singapore’s intended execution of Mr Nagaenthran K. Dharmalingam, a Malaysian man with severe mental disabilities, on Wednesday, 10 November 2021 is a shameful breach of international human rights law and has been roundly condemned by human rights groups.
Amnesty International has called the proposal despicable and has called for the execution not to proceed.
The proposal has also been strongly criticised by the Commonwealth Lawyers Association which has called on the Singapore government to adhere to international standards and obligations and to exercise clemency under the Singaporean constitution.
Human Rights Watch has also called for the execution to be halted.
